How to Install and Activate MPEG-2 Plugins in DaVinci Resolve Studio 18.6.5

Hello everyone,

I purchased a codec plugin that is supposed to add MPEG-2 support to DaVinci Resolve Studio 18.6.5. However, after installing the plugin, I cannot find it in Preferences > Video Plugins.

I need to import interlaced MPEG-2 PAL footage from my old camera, and this plugin is supposed to help me do that.

Can anyone guide me through the exact installation and activation steps to get the plugin working in DaVinci Resolve?

Hello,

Transport stream is a distribution format for delivery, but not really suitable for editing. Maybe that is the reason why Resolve does not support it. However, according to Blackmagic website the Resolve 18.6 supports MPEG-2 video, not MTS / M2TS but MXF and MOV container. Please check this document:

MainConcept Codec Plugin for DaVinci Resolve Studio allows you to encode and export MPEG-2 video, but it does not affect the importing / decoding part. It is mentioned on the MainConcept website in the Product Highlights section:

The import is fully handled by Resolve. Therefore, if you have .mpg or .ts MPEG-2 files, you can rewrap them using, for example, FFMPEG or other third party transcoder into MXF or MOV container, then Resolve will “see” your files. There are a lot of threads on Blackmagic Forum about it, for example:
